A year without :: CABLE

Once upon a time, the Earles household had hundreds of channels, beautiful HD images of anything VH1 could dream of, and endless hours backlogged on our DVR.  We also had a ginormous cable bill.  Once Matt was accepted to nursing school, we shut off our cable and stuck to an HD antenna to get our TV fix.

You would think that we would miss all of our favorite shows, but in all honesty, I can live without The Deadliest Catch (it is the SAME SHOW every episode) and America's Next Top Model (it is the SAME SHOW every episode).  I learned two big lessons not having cable for 12 months :: A) living without cable is not as painful as you might think.  Most shows you can watch on the main networks or online and everything else you can live without.  And you have time to do other stuff, like read, work out, and, you know, get off the couch in general :) B) you can save over $1,000 in a year.  Literally.  More if you have a premium package with the movies/sports/whatever.

Today, this little experiment is over, and we are re-entering society with DirecTV.  Why?  Because we can take it to our tailgate. Yeah, that's right, we only splurged on cable/satellite so we can tailgate it up.  I'm so pumped.  35 days until we have Sooner Football again. I can hardly sit I'm so excited...

Ps.  I'm going to start giving up stuff for a year at a time...so this was the first thing.  Next, pop, which I haven't had since 12.31.09.  What should I live without next??
