Oh Dave....

Matt is taking a personal finance class at OC where he has to learn how to balance a checkbook and build up his credit score...yes, he is 29, has a mortgage and an MBA , but he is also a Junior in nursing school, so sometimes you have to learn the little stuff to get to the big medical stuff. So he is reading a little book by some guy...oh wait....he is reading "Financial Peace Revisited" by Dave Ramsey. Not just some guy, but that guy on the radio doling out financial advice. That guy I wrote off because I thought he was on Fox News and he had somewhat clever billboards ("Act Your Wage," etc.). But then one day I heard him on the radio, and this guy is great! He tells it how it is, tells people how silly they are, and tells them to get their butt in gear and GROW UP! It's fantastic! I just finished the book as well, and I wish I would have read it right when Matt and I got married. If it wouldn't be too tacky, I would buy it as a wedding present for every wedding I go to from now on (maybe I will, but I won't sign the card).

I just finished the book last night, but all through the book I kept seeing bits of myself. Like "stuffitis," boy, do I have that! I love stuff! I love new stuff! I love pretty stuff! I also am already planning my 3rd house and my boat and all the fun stuff I'll buy when I win the lottery. Oh wait. Crap. That probably won't happen, seeing as I always forget to buy lottery tickets and the chances are like 1 in 10000000 bajillion that I will win. So what is a girl to do? Write it down. Stick to it. Suffer not having lots of stuff for a little bit. Like my boss says "Pay now or Pay later." So I'm paying now, darn it!

Ok, I'm off my soapbox...

The last thing I will say is that you should read this book, or any book by Dave Ramsey, or any simple financial book that speaks to you. Make the $25 investment to save hundreds of dollars each month. Write out a budget, get some envelopes to put your cash in, and stop spending money. I'm serious. Look at where your money goes....then look at where it could go if you just held on to it a little longer.

Alright, really, I'm off my soapbox. But go get it. For serious. Now. Or borrow my copy.
